Don’t Lose the WOW Factor When It Comes to Your Wedding Dress!

Rivini Wedding Dress on the New York Runway

What is it that creates the WOW factor? It is generally a combination of an amazing fit, great fabrication, quality and unique styling. Don’t let your dress go from WOW to BORING! Generally, when a wedding dress style is knocked off by every low end wedding dress manufacturer, when you can find it in chain bridal shops or when every bridal shop in town has it, the WOW factor is lost. Another loss of WOW occurs when the bride, or her friends, want to take the unique elements off the wedding dress. Most importantly the more people you involve in the wedding dress selection process the more you go from WOW to “seen it” from your guests on your wedding day. The more people who see your wedding dress before your wedding, the less likelihood of getting the reaction every bride looks for from her friends and family. The WOW factor is similar to - Love at first sight.  Do you want the WOW at the bridal shop or at your wedding when your hair and make up are perfect, and you glow from the day? You decide.

When do I HAVE to order my wedding dress?

Every bride asks “When do I have to order my wedding dress? What is the last date possible I can order my wedding dress?”

Not all brides ask for the same reason. Some it is a money issue. Some want to make sure that she (Type A's)  has no stress and wants to make sure her wedding dress arrives plenty early so she doesn’t have to worry and have those wedding dress nightmares, you know the ones, “I dreamt that my dress came in black”. Brides have them until they see their dress in person. However, a big reason, no matter how big or small a bride may be, is because she wants to know the last possible minute she can order in case she loses weight. Wrong reason. Most brides lose weight the few weeks before the wedding because of nerves. You can take the dress in. Unless a bride has a medication issue, or is on a very strict diet, with boot camp, most brides don’t lose enough weight to make a difference in the size wedding dress she orders. So be realistic, it is better to get the dress in early, at least a couple of months in advance so you have peace of mind, and the dress will probably need taking in somewhere anyways. Whatever your reason, shop when you are ready to find a dress, make a decision and move on to other wedding decisions, or better yet spend your spare time with your fiancé during your engagement period.

American Wedding Dress Designers-Is There a Difference?

We are excited that Liancarlo, a wedding dress designer out of Florida, has agreed to do another trunk show in Kansas City! After such a busy wedding season, I really appreciate the difference of working with fine American wedding gown designers where the manufacturing is done in their own workroom. The attention to detail in design is far superior than those who draw a picture and send it to China to manufacture. Not only is the attention to design detail better and more creative, but the workmanship on the gowns is superior, the handwork is true artistry. Why doesn’t every bride want to wear such a garment, unfortunately price can be a factor. To think the wedding gown market is flooded with companies that make wedding gowns under a designer name who doesn’t even exist, definitely a different eye for detail, or lack there of! When looking for a wedding dress, think of what really makes your wedding dress special, is it the fabrication, attention to detail, design or quality of workmanship, or is it just a dress that is almost like an American made wedding dress? Many of the designers I know are truly passionate about what they do and are not just in it for the business, otherwise they would take their sketch and send it to China, make it cheaper and pocket a whole lot more money!

What To Look For In A Bridal Shop

I often get a lot of questions from brides asking what to look for in a bridal shop. Although finding the right dress is of the utmost importance, do not underestimate the importance of finding the right dress at the right store. I caution brides from placing an order with more than a 50% deposit, any more than that should be a concern and is not industry average. Pay attention to former brides comments as to their service and delivery of the gown they ordered. Did the bridal shop deliver the dress they ordered, was it a counterfeit, were they intimidated into being convinced it was the dress they ordered, did it arrive the week of the wedding? I am always amazed at how often I hear "but I didn't think it would happen to me". Often times that puts the bride in a position of desperation and settles for anything, just to have something to wear. I recommend you get it in writing, delivery date, vendor, and anything else that is important to you. I always allow the bride to take a picture of the gown after she orders it, so there is never any question whether it is the same dress they ordered. If a store won't put their commitment to you in writing I suggest you run. Never order a dress from a store that is not an authorized dealer, check with the designer if unsure. Unfortunately for the great stores that provide great service, there are always going to be a few that challenge us all.
