Designer Spotlight
Liancarlo, Venetian Light
New York Bridal Market is just a few days away. As we prep to meet with our favorite designers they are prepping, too! Liancarlo (whose exquisite designs are all Made in the USA) spared a moment to share with brides a little more about his upcoming collection. In this video you can see the attention to detail and the artistic influence that artist and designer, Carlos Ramirez brings to every dress he designs.
In his upcoming collection, Venetian Light, the designer was inspired by the ethereal light that covers the city of Venice. During a recent trip to Italy he discovered the way that light diffuses subtle coloring on the landscape of the country. The elements of light and color are portrayed in the softness of the laces and embroidery used on the wedding dresses as well as the movement from the overall structure of the gowns.

A Month of Love
I Love You
Valentine's Day may be over but that is not a reason to stop showering your loved ones in, well, love! Whether you are showing your sweetheart, best friend, college roommate, niece or nephew, or anyone you surround yourself with it's important to feel the love all the time, not just on Valentine's Day. We've found a great list of ideas to show those special people just what they mean to you any old day of the year!
1. Share five minutes of uninterrupted eye contact. Creepy ... but definitely a memory.
2. Watch a sunset or sunrise together with your favorite indie rock anthem playing in the background and pretend you’re in a slightly obvious hipster film.
3. Call your parents and thank them for specific things they’ve done for you.
4. Pick out a book and read aloud together. Quality time together and the expansion of your individual/collective knowledge bases.
5. Set up a “media-free” day/evening so you can fully focus attention on a loved one.
6. Get fancy. It’s a classic, but dressing up and splurging on a friend or loved one is a timeless way to tell someone you care.
7. "Family Love Michael." Throw a surprise “We appreciate you!” party with close friends where everyone gives a short speech about why someone is loved.
8. Plan “the perfect date.” Do exactly what he or she loves to do, with no strings attached.
9. Rent an ice-skating rink. Play “Endless Love” over the PA, and have dinner at center ice.
10. Re-visit a first date or first meeting place and reminisce about what brought you together, what you’ve learned since and what you’re looking forward to together.
11. The Red Snuggie. Truly the gift that keeps on giving, all year long.
POP SOME POPCORN AND ARRANGE A MARATHON OF YOUR LOVE’S FAVORITE FILMS FROM HIS OR HER CHILDHOOD OR COLLEGE DAYS.
12. Make a handmade Valentine’s Day Card. Creative, frame-able and ultra-sweet.
13. Write out an Alphabet of Appreciation. “You are A for Awesome, B for Beautiful, C for ...” (you get the idea).
14. Be a Merry Maid. Surprise a friend by cleaning their office, kitchen, car or bedroom—guaranteed to result in shock and awesome.
15. Babysit for free for that couple you know desperately needs a night out.
16. Be the Grocery Fairy. Most practical gift ever—surprise a friend with a week’s worth of fresh groceries.
17. FRESH. BAKED. COOKIES. Need we say more?
18. Knit something and give it away. Craftsmanship + generosity = LOVE (note: everyone loves mittens)
19. Mixtape 2013. Curating 12-15 hand-picked tracks for a friend or loved one says, “I care about you ... and the soundtrack to your life.”
20. Hand-write a letter explaining why you love someone—and be specific.
21. Dedicate and perform a karaoke song (in public, of course) to your beloved.
22. “[Your Loved One’s Name] 4 Lyf.” Finally commit and get that lower back tattoo you’ve been considering.
23. Host a “Wes Anderthon.” Pop some popcorn and arrange a marathon of your love’s favorite films from his or her childhood or college days.
24. Two words: shoe polish. It makes your shoes look spiffy, but it's also the best way to write "I heart you" on the window of your sweetie's Subaru.
25. Love goes viral! Use iMovie to piece together a collection of reasons why you like/love/adore/appreciate someone (feature other people, funny props, scenic locales) and upload to YouTube.
26. ROAD TRIP! Take your love to that place he or she has always truly (or ironically) wanted to go (i.e. the Lumberjack Games, The Holy Land Experience, Chuck E. Cheese, Las Vegas, etc.).
27. Surprise someone with an early morning date. Watch the sky light up, go to a favorite breakfast spot, drink coffee and start the day with a full cup of companionship.
28. Public Display of Attention (the other PDA). Proudly and sincerely compliment, dote over and affirm your significant other in front of others.
29. “I like you. I love you. I’m proud of you.” Say and mean these three phrases often—affirmation through clear communication is the “chocolate-covered strawberry” of relationships.

Today we have to share this beautiful quote by Picasso. It also happens to be a favorite quote by the designer for Victoria Nicole, the most recent wedding dress trunk show that we hosted.
Enjoy and spread the love this Valentine's Week!

How is a Couture Gown Made?
Couture, it seems to be a very over-used word in the fashion world and especially in the bridal industry. As you shop and look at the hundreds of weddings dresses offered by designers you are sure to see the word, too. So what does it mean? Why is it important and what actually goes in to making a couture dress? Take a look behind the scenes at the Spring/Summer 2013, Chanel Couture show, and learn a bit more about the art of couture. This footage isn't the hustle and bustle of backstage during the fashion show, it is the real behind the scenes footage of what it takes to create couture.

like to share a tip of her wedding planning advice,

With
that being said, we used the weekend to have fun with friends! So take a date
in Kansas City with your sweetie!

Party on the Rooftop

Nothing Like a New York Party
A brisk, New York evening spent on the rooftop of The Empire Hotel was an impeccable way to end the first day of appointments during April's New York Bridal Market. The moment we arrived on the rooftop we knew it would be a fabulous night. Designers Yumi Katsura and Simone Carvalli held the party to introduce the new designer wedding dress collection Victor Harper.
Laura and I setttled into the party and enjoyed hor'derves and signature coacktails as we visited with designers. Meeting with the designer for Victor Harper and learning more about his new line was amazing. He is such a talented, witty and personable man; A true joy to be in his company. The cocktails had fabulous names unique to each designer, too, such as Heavenly Bodies which celebrated the new collection for Yumi Katsura.
While at the party we were able to meet with great people, Grace Ormonde photographer Ed form Zorz Studios spent the evening visited and sharing his work with us. Truly breathtaking images that capture the real emotion of passion.
Enjoying the party at the rooftop of the Empire Hotel, with photographer Ed.
As the sun set, The Empire Hotel Rooftop was the perfect place to watch the lights of the New York City skyline come on. Laura and I were glad we were able to attend this New York party and celebrate the work of the newest line carried at Laura's Couture Collection line, Victor Harper.

Yumi Katsura Wedding Dress Trunk Show in Kansas City
The Yumi Katsura Couture wedding dress trunk show, in Kansas City, has ended. What a fabulous week we had with those gorgeous gowns!
Laura's Couture Collection also had the pleasure of having the company sales representative, Tricia, in town for the weekend. She was able to bring her expert styling to our Kansas City brides, as well as tell us a little bit more about Yumi. Did you know that she designs completely different collections for her North America line and her Europe and Asia Line?! So your Yumi Katsura Americas wedding dress is even more unique.
We were incredibly privileged to share these wedding dresses with Kansas City - it was their first stop in America after NYC - and hope you fell in love with Yumi Katsura Couture!

My Fair Wedding with David Tutera and the Make-A-Wish Foundation
This past April, Laura's Couture Collection was priveledged to host David Tutera's My Fair Wedding, as he shot an episode of the hit WE television show, My Fair Wedding, in our bridal salon.

"David Tutera approaches every wedding with an open heart and an open mind. But few stories have touched David as much as bride Wendy and groom Rocky’s. This couple put their wedding plans on hold when Wendy’s teenage son, Ryan, received a life-threatening diagnosis of cancer. Thankfully, Ryan’s cancer is now in remission, and this generous young man wants to pay his good fortune forward. Ryan asked the Make-A-Wish Foundation® to bring David Tutera to Topeka, Kansas, to give his mom the wedding she’s been waiting for. But Wendy’s dress is a disaster, and so are the rest of the wedding details. Now David has six days to create a wedding like nothing Topeka has ever seen before!" (http://www.wetv.com/)
Enjoy these special images of David's trip to Kansas, courtesy of Adrienne Maples PhotoStudios Copyright 2011!
